Our firefighter training course offers comprehensive training for aspiring BCFR firefighters. Over 28 weeks, cadets undergo rigorous physical training, classroom sessions, hands-on skill development, and academic assessments.
Apply for this exciting and challenging opportunity to become a firefighter with Bernalillo County Fire Rescue.
Once your application is accepted, you will be scheduled to take the written entrance exam. This exam assesses work styles, integrity, and social adaptability, all key qualities for a successful firefighter.
After passing the written exam, you will be scheduled for a Physical Assessment, which includes the Pack Test, where you will carry heavy loads over a set distance, and the Modified Combat Challenge, which simulates physical firefighting tasks. To prepare, focus on building strength, endurance, and cardio to ensure you are ready for the physical demands of the assessment.
After passing the written exam and physical assessment, you will then be invited to the oral interview. This will consist of standard interview questions. Upon successful completion of the interview process your combined score of all three assessments will give you a final score which will determine whether you are accepted in the fire academy.
Once you've completed all assessments, successful candidates will move forward in the hiring process to join the Fire Cadet Academy. For more information on each step of the application process, feel free to contact us.
